কবি জীবনানন্দ দাশ ১৮৯৯ সালের ১৭ ফেব্রুয়ারি বরিশাল শহরে জন্মগ্রহণ করেন।
তিনি ১৯২১ সালে কলকাতা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় থেকে ইংরেজি সাহিত্যে এম এ পাশ করেন। ইংরেজি সাহিত্যের অধ্যাপক হিসেবে তাঁর কর্মজীবনের শুরু হয় এবং তিনি বিভিন্ন সময়ে কলকাতা সিটি কলেজ, দিল্লি রামযশ কলেজ, বরিশাল ব্রজমোহন কলেজ, খড়গপুর কলেজ, বরিষা কলেজ ও হাওড়া কলেজে অধ্যাপনা করেন। এক সময় তিনি সাংবাদিকতার পেশাও অবলম্বন করেছিলেন। জীবনানন্দ দাশের কবিতায় বাংলাদেশের প্রকৃতির রং ও রূপের বিচিত্র প্রকাশ ঘটেছে। অনেক অজানা গাছ, পশু-পাখি ও লতাপাতা তাঁর কবিতায় নতুন পরিচয়ে ধরা পড়েছে। প্রকৃতিপ্রেমিক এই কবি প্রকৃতি থেকেই তাঁর কবিতার রূপরস সংগ্রহ করেছেন। কবিতা ছাড়াও তিনি গল্প, উপন্যাস ও প্রবন্ধ রচনা করেছেন। তিনি ১৯৫৪ সালের ২২ অক্টোবর কলকাতায় এক ট্রাম দুর্ঘটনায় নিহত হন।

Author Introduction 'Jibanananda Das'
Poet Jibanananda Das was born on 17 February 1899 in Barisal. He passed MA in English Literature from Calcutta University in 1921. He started his career as a Professor of English Literature and at different times he taught at Calcutta City College, Delhi Ramyash College, Barisal Brajmohan College, Kharagpur College, Barisha College and Howrah College.
At one time he also took up the profession of journalism. Jibanananda Das's poems express the colors and forms of nature in Bangladesh. Many unknown trees, animals, birds and herbs have been identified in his poems. This nature lover has collected the forms of his poems from nature. In addition to poetry, he has written stories, novels and essays. He was killed in a tram accident on 22 October 1954 in Calcutta.
