শরৎচন্দ্র চট্টোপাধ্যায় ১৫ সেপ্টেম্বর ১৮৭৬  সালে পশ্চিমবঙ্গের হুগলি জেলার দেবানন্দপুর গ্রামে জন্মগ্রহন করেন। তার কৈশোর ও যৌবনের অধিকাংশ সময় অতিবাহিত  হয় ভাগলপুরে, মাতলালয়ে।দারিদ্র্যের কারণে কলেজ শিক্ষা অসমাপ্ত থেকে যায়। জীবিকার সন্ধানে রেঙ্গুন গমন ও সেখানে অবস্থান কালে (১৯০৩-১৯১৬) সাহিত্য সাধনায় আত্মনিয়োগ করেন।

১৯০৭ সালে ভারতী পত্রিকায় "বড়দিদি" উপন্যাস প্রকাশিত হলে তার সাহিত্যিক খ্যাতি ছড়িয়ে পড়ে।এরপর একের পর এক গল্প উপন্যাস লিখে তিনি এমনভাবে পাঠকহৃদয় জয় করেন যে তিনি বাংলা সাহিত্যের সবচেয়ে জনপ্রিয় লেখকে পরিনত হন। সাধারণ বাঙালি পাঠকের আবেগকে তিনি যথাযথভাবে উপলব্ধি করতে পেরেছিলেন।

তার বিখ্যাত উপন্যাসগুলোর মধ্যে রয়েছে ঃ বড়দিদি (১৯১৩), পল্লীসমাজ (১৯১৬), দেবদাস (১৯১৭), চরিত্রহীন (১৯১৭), শ্রীকান্ত (চারখণ্ডে ১৯১৭-১৯৩৩), দত্তা (১৯১৮), গৃহদাহ (১৯২০), পথের দাবী (১৯২৬), পরিণীতা (১৯১৪), শেষ প্রশ্ন (১৯৩১) প্রভৃতি। 

সাহিত্যপ্রতিভার স্বীকৃতি হিসেবে তিনি কলকাতা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় থেকে জগত্তারিণী স্বর্ণপদক ও ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় থেকে ডি. লিট উপাধি লাভ করেন। বাংলা সাহিত্যের ইতিহাসে অপ্রতিদ্বন্দ্বী জনপ্রিয়তার দরুন তিনি 'অপরাজেয় কথাশিল্পী' নামে খ্যাত।

বাংলা সাহিত্যের এই কালজয়ী কথা শিল্পীর জীবনাবাসন ঘটে ১৯৩৮ সালের ১৬ই জানুয়ারী।

 Author Introduction 'Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay'

Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay was born in 15 September 1876 in the village of Debanandapur in the Hooghly district of West Bengal. Most of his adolescence and youth was spent in Bhagalpur, Matlalaya. His College education remained unfinished due to poverty.

During his stay in Rangoon (1903-1918) in search of a livelihood, he devoted himself to literary pursuits.

Her literary fame spread in 1908 when the novel "Barodidi" was published in Bharati.He then won the hearts of the readers by writing one story novel after another in such a way that he became the most popular writer in Bengali literature. He was able to understand the emotions of ordinary Bengali readers.

His famous Novels Include: Barodidi (1913), Pallisamaj (1917), Devdas (1917), Charitrahin (1918), Srikanta (four volumes 1917-1933), Dattaa(1917), Grihadah (1920), Pather Daabi (1926), Parineeta (1914), Shesh Prashna (1931) etc.

In recognition of his literary talent, he received the Jagattarini Gold Medal from Calcutta University and the D.Lit from Dhaka University. Lit earned the title. Due to his unrivaled popularity in the history of Bengali literature, he is known as the 'Invincible Storyteller'. This time-honored artist of Bengali literature died on 16 January 1936.
